Outdoor Range Hours

Background and General Info

Massachusetts General Law Chapter 214§7B protects the club from civil or or criminal complaints for violation of any noise ordinance enacted after the ranges were put into service. This protection applies from 8AM to 10PM, 7 days a week.  There shall be no shooting outdoors on club property before or after that period, other than huntin, in season.

The Hopkinton Sportsmens Association (HSA) has been in continuous operation of outdoor shooting ranges at its current location since 1931.

Some of our current rules limit outdoor range hours to a greater extent than required by law. However, Hopkinton Sportsmens Assocation has not sacrificed, surrendered, or given up any protections provided by MGL 214§7B by doing so. Therefore:

  • Nothing in our association rules pertaining to currently allowed shooting hours constitutes an arrangement, promise, or agreement that precludes HSA from changing the hours in our rules to any hours permitted by law..
  • Violations of club rules that are not also violations of Massachusetts Law, will be considered solely internal HSA matters, and dealt with internally by HSA in accordance with club rules.

Shooting Hours

  • Member “self service” shooting hours on the outdoors pistol and rifle ranges are from 9AM until 30 minutes prior to sunset.
  • “Scheduled events” (i.e. not “self service” range use) may extend beyond sunset, or start before 9AM,  but all shooting will be conducted between 8AM and 10PM.
  • Our Trap and Skeet fields are lighted and scheduled event shooting may occur after sunset, but will in all cases shop by 10PM.
  • Lawful hunting activity may commence prior to 9AM.
